When it comes to Indian food, there is not a single doubt on our mind that it’s a “nicely whack” kind of food experience. However, this place that we’re going to be talking about is definitely a one step up from your typical eating experience.
Batang Kali Bamboo Biryani has been around for almost 5 years now and is looking to open a franchise (local or international) due to its success and popularity among the customers here. It looks like a normal restaurant from out but when you enter in, it gives you a very spacious space to go around, easy going and you can just capture the wonderful aroma of food that keeps you smiling as you enter.
This popular place is mainly famous for many things. One of them is for their Signature Crab Bamboo Biryani. A 1 kilogram of mud king crabs are placed in the bamboo and covered with a soft and fluffy biryani rice, where the rice is cooked for more than 1 hour. Add two hard boiled eggs on it and then they will wrap it up. Last part would go into the steamer for 45 minutes to ensure the flavour of the spices and meat will be absorbed by the rice. Once it’s done, you can just see the beauty of the cooked meaty crab mixed together with the aroma of the briyani. Sounds like heaven already 🙂 This particular dish is served in a big portion so it’s perfect for 2-3 pax to consume it.
P.S. Pair it with their Egg Kalaki, a soft scrambled egg cooked in masala.
Most of their snacks are inspired from the popular street foods in India and here are some that you can try in Batang Kali Bamboo Biryani
- Panee Puri
It’s a crisp fried dough balls (puri) that is stuffed with potatoes, sprouts, spicy tangy water or sweet chutney for a hint of sweetness.
- Bhel Puri
A tasty and Chatpata savory snack made with puffed rice to which many delectable tidbits are added.
- Dahi puri
This is a burst of many flavours where you can get sweet, sour, tangy, spicy and crispy chaat flavour that is worth the try!
Their sweet tooth offerings here is literally the bomb here and on fire! Literally. Check out their Fire Beeda, a recipe from Mumbai straight to your mouth. They fire it up on a small portion of banana leaf, flame it up and cover the leaf up and straight in. It’s for the adventure seeking foodies out there. Make sure you try out their sweet bida and chocolate beeda.
Last but not least, the drinks here are one of the best especially the chai (tea)!
Their Tandoori Chai here is one of the TALLEST chai oven in town, just look at it from the video.
The Dum Chai is also another of their signatures where you can get 10 different spices that are added into the tea. It is boiled for 30 minutes before serving. The lid is covered with flour dough to make sure the smell of tea doesn’t escape out. Hence, when you have the tea, it’s only for you and only you alone to enjoy 🙂
Make sure you get your family and friends and share the deliciousness of this place.
