The two burning questions that will fog our minds just before the Chinese New Year. If you’re looking for a place for your family’s reunion dinner or meals during CNY, make a reservation at Gather Gather Kitchen in Kota Kemuning.
This restaurant serves unique and unconventional Chinese dishes that are sure to get your guests talking and cameras clicking. During this festive season, they have prepared set menus with price starting from RM 468.
We chose the Prosperity Set B which is an eight-course meal sufficient for 8 to 10 pax. For RM 668 per set, we started our meal with tossing for prosperity with the salmon yee sang. Subequently, we had the 2-Style Fish, Herbal Roasted Duck, Twin Style Crayfish, 3 Taste Yam Basket, Twin Style HK Kailan, Claypot Pork Lard Rice and lastly, the Jelly Longan.

If you’re undecided on what cooking style you’d like for your fish, this dish solves the indecisiveness. This unique preparation of two contrasting flavours is only available during CNY. The fish is split between two sides of the pot. If you want to drench your fish with a light and refreshing broth, go for the lemongrass soup. Cooked with a mixture of clams and squid, it accentuates the seafood essences of the dish without overpowering the freshness of the fish. If you like something richer, savoury in taste with a little heat, then go for the special garlic soy sauce on the other side of the pot. The chopped cili padi and raw garlic adds a zing to the dish.
Herbal Roasted Duck
As soon as the duck landed on the table, we were in awe! We could not peel our eyes off from the glimmering sheen of the perfectly roasted duck. The skin was crispy and with very little fat. The meat was infused with the right mixture of herbs, so it didn’t taste overwhelmingly pungent. Juicy and tender, you could just eat it on its own.
Twin Style Crayfish
Put those dinner etiquettes away because you need your fingers to enjoy these little red crustaceans! Start off by cracking open the head of the crayfish from its body. Then tug the rest of the segments away and the flesh easily peels off from the shell. The crayfish were fresh. The preparation of this dish was slightly spicy so go easy on the sauce.
3 Taste Yam Basket
THREE yam baskets on a single platter! How cool is that?! The three rings in the middle were served along with three center dishes on a bed of deep-fried vermicelli.
