Three years ago, Restoran Sate 7 Pagi started off as a small stall serving authentic Johorean dishes. From these humble beginnings, their popularity grew, and they now have their very own corner-lot restaurant in Seri Kembangan. And it’s no brainer here – they serve satay as early as 7 in the morning!
With satay as their restaurant name, you must try this specialty! Marinated slices of chicken and beef in skewers are perfectly grilled and slightly charred for that smoky after-taste. Whether you go for the satay ayam, satay daging or both, they are bound to satisfy your meat-on-sticks cravings. There is no right way to have your satay because all you need to do is to make sure you dip it into the peanut sauce, coat it evenly and just slide it off! Devour it, baby!
Another popular Johorean dish is the Lontong Kering Special (RM 13.50). Unlike other types of lontong where the nasi impit is drenched in kuah lodeh (light, lemak gravy), this Lontong Kering Special is (like the name says) drier but just as delicious. The nasi impit is complemented with a couple of sides – sayur jawa, beef liver, sotong sambal and begedil. Mix it up and you get a fusion of spiciness, savoury and gameyness (from the beef liver) along with the varying textures of veggies, meat and potato cutlets. While writing and thinking about this dish is just plain torture because it’s making me hungry! That’s how GOOD it really is because it has left a lasting impact in our minds!
The Mee Rebus Special (RM 10) is not to be missed. Albeit a pretty simple dish of blanched yellow mee topped with taugeh, fried onions, green chili, tauhu goreng, and a hard-boiled egg, it is THAT homemade sauce that makes the difference. Don’t forget to squeeze some limau juice to add a little tanginess to the dish! Seriously – don’t miss this!
If you want to share with four hungry friends (or three EXTREMELY hungry friends), then we recommend the Nasi Briyani Arang Ayam & Kambing (RM 53). It comes with a generous serving of fluffy, fragrant briyani rice along with a good portion of kari kambing and grilled chicken. The sharing platter is so large that we just don’t know where to begin! This set also comes with a jug of sirap ais. A refreshing drink to go along a rich in flavour dish.
If you have no plans to go down to Johor anytime soon, get your southern comfort food from Sate 7 Pagi in Seri Kembangan. Opens at 7am!
